In the earlier stages of work Conservation Accredited Architect and Director, Alex Finlason carried out a series of surveys and investigations, writing a Statement of Significance, a Heritage Statement amongst other reports to highlight the importance of the heritage of one of the first buildings in the world to use iron for the primary structure. FPL lead work to replace the electrical and lighting systems in this unique building, which required the up-most care and due diligence.
The latest phase of work that FPL has carried out has been investigating the patented ‘almost flat’ slate roofing system and have been successful in applying for HLF funding to carry out urgent repairs to this unique leaking roof. This is due to commence on site in the summer of 2014.
Our practice is committed to conservation projects such as St George’s that require overseeing for many years with numerous phases of works, and working with the clients to guide them through the HLF grant application system and through other funding sources. We have an excellent track record of success in receiving funds for these schemes and partnering with the HLF, English Heritage and other public bodies.
