Arnold’s Yard is located within the town centre conservation area in the locality of a highly sensitive archaeological site.  This project was potentially fraught by planning policy and local objections to any form of development.  FPL collaborated very closely with the Council and interest groups, in developing the accommodation brief and approach to the site redevelopment. This led to a sensitive response to the townscape context.  In support of the proposals, we completed a thorough study of the townscape that shaped both the design of the layout and aesthetics of the scheme.

FPL negotiated a series of relaxation’s to the Planning Guidelines, enabling the development to maximise commercial value whilst creating harmony with the surroundings.  The project received unanimous support at the presentation to the Planning Committee.

The courtyard style development of 12 houses and 13 flats features a variety of design elements and draws upon the heritage of the area. The development is arranged around the perimeter of a historic cobbled yard close to the original market place of Altrincham town centre.
