John Dalton Campus
Client: Manchester Metropolitan University
Location: John Dalton Campus, Manchester
Budget: £28 million
Status: Completed
At Manchester Metropolitan University the John Dalton campus covers approximately 3-acres comprising a range of teaching facilities, engineering workshops and car parking utilised by the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Our practice were appointed to undertake two different commissions on this site comprising; Design Completion / Architect and Contract Administrators to Phase 1 the new extension (£10m) and Client Representative / Contract Administrator for Phase 2 the John Dalton Tower refurbishment (£15m).
The work involved the demolition of part of the existing building, in order to make way for a new ‘infill’ building, providing both teaching and IT facilities. In addition to new accommodation, the project also involved the creation of a new clearly defined circulation spine through the centre of the new complex linking a collection of existing buildings together. A new entrance area is also created on Oxford Road.
The project required a high demand for management & co-ordination of the servicing strategy due to the highly serviced nature of the complex and inter-dependency of the buildings.
Our practice was commissioned as a multi-professional practice to implement the works, which were successfully completed on time and in budget.
