St George’s Church, Everton – completion of replacement patented slate roof

The unique patented slate roof at the Grade I listed St George’s Church, Everton has suffered from water ingress and damage to the unique cast iron structure, requiring urgent work to be undertaken. The past repair work only highlighted the need for a modern design to reinstate the original principles of the architect.

FPL designed a solution to the inherent faults and work commenced on site in September 2014 and works have recently been completed to the delight of the team and particularly the congregation.

Supported by skilled tradesman and experts within the slate roofing industry, the work at St George’s church is considered an exemplary project which is to be used to expand the industries knowledge on historic roofing techniques and as a template for the training of slate roof professionals.
